Kenneth A. Larson has been a designer and artist since 1978. Ken is an Interior Designer and is providing art as accessories for Interior Design.
This is a series of abstract wood sculpture. Many are made from raw pieces of tree branches and trunks, using the existing curves and shapes as a guide to bring out these patterns. The artist uses basic wood working tools such as band saws and sanders, using hand sanding and finishing for the final surface. These are one of a kind art pieces.
Disclaimer: Wood is a natural product. There are cracks and other natural blemishes which sometimes add to the design. In some case, cracks have been filled with colored resin, others left. Some new cracking may occur after the parts are finished. These are art works and there are no guarantees against this natural cracking.
Note: In all cases, these are one of a kind. Quantity is one each, first come, first serve. If you are sending a check by mail, call or e-mail so that the art piece can be held for you.
Many of these sculptures are tall with a small base. It is for this challenge to gravity that many of the designs were derived. The sculptures are balance to stand without a base. however, if the sculpture is to be places in a location subject to children, pets, wind, or earthquakes, it is suggested that they be secured with earthquake wax or other stabilizing means.
Materials:
Brazilian Pepper is classed as a hard wood, but is actually a medium hardness. It produces a fine even grain.
Jacaranda is classed as a hard wood, but is actually a medium hardness. It produces a grain pattern and usually finishes light in color.
Juniper has a hard core and the artist usually take off the outer softer material. The grain makes an attractive pattern and sometimes finishes with a slight purple color.
